My husband loves to try new foods. Especially meat. He’s had reindeer, bison, alligator, ox, and most recently discovered frog legs.

Frog legs on Carnival Triumph

Just this week as part of his Christmas/Anniversary presents my friend aided me by supplying me with elk meat. Her husband frequently goes hunting in NM with his father. And while he didn’t win a voucher for elk this year his uncle did.

She gave me half a roast and some ground elk that is destined to become hamburgers later on. I’ve never had elk before and found the taste to be different from beef. No, it didn’t taste like chicken. I can’t really describe it. It was extremely tender, though that could be attributed to my awesome cooking skills. Do try not to die laughing there, I’m not that bad really. It was also… sweet? Not sweet like a treat but a different kind of sweet. It’s hard to describe but I do look forward to finishing the roast off and making some elkburgers.

What was left of my elk roast, after our food coma.
