Hiking

As part of my goal of losing weight and toning up I’m dragging my family out hiking as often as possible. We didn’t go this weekend since it’s snowing… again. It might sound like an excuse but my joints honestly don’t like the cold.

Last weekend we did manage to go hiking in the mountains. Since they’re literally in my back yard it’s a short 15 minute drive up to the trails.

If anyone tells you the desert is ugly they’ve obviously never been.

I managed a twenty minute easy hike before my poor joints and generally out of shape body protested. Over all not too bad… for now.

I fell in love with this bush. The bright vibrant color of it’s bark begs to become part of a verian.

And of course what hike is complete without a wild animal sighting? I’m just glad it wasn’t a javelina or a bear. (the pictures are much less blurry if you click on them 😉

Unfortunately I don’t know what kind it is. I’d love to find out though. I can already picture a character in my third book that looks like it. Maybe skin that shade of vibrant red and dark green hair with deep brown eyes? Perhaps the bush will inspire me to get back to work now that the unpacking is done. 🙂

The desert is gorgeous. I fell in love with it all when I first moved to NM from the lush green of the NE.

I still prefer the SE but the desert has a charm of its own. I’m a sucker for sunsets and it has mind blowing sunsets. I hated the last desert we were in but that had more to do with the city and all the sand than the fact that it was a desert.

The night sky in the high desert is amazing too. The NE had so many trees blocking the view of the stars.

I agree, that city was hard to find beauty in. The mountains and sunrises/sets made up for it…kinda.

It’s very pretty, I like to see wildlife when I’m in a big fast car 🙂
