The Swirl Hat

As I said previously part of my Christmas gift wasn’t just yarn but free patterns from Drops Design that my husband thought I’d like. After several failed attempts I gave up making the following.

Beautiful, yes, but beyond my skill level apparently. I couldn’t figure out how I kept losing stitches going from 50 down to 45 at one point. I wasn’t even sure what to do with the extra stitches (I couldn’t always complete the PSSO when I’d end up with only 1-2 sts on my needle instead of 3 at the end of a round).

So I frogged it when my Alpaca yarn started to look a little worse for wear after the 5th time of unraveling it.

Enter the Swirl Hat from Patons Yarn. This particular pattern worked up quick and easy for me. Probably because I’m much better at crocheting than knitting. (For proof just look here on my blog under ‘knitting’ and compare to ‘crochet’.)

Here is my attempt at the Swirl Hat!

Not too shabby and the Alpaca Yarn by Drops makes it a joy to wear. Best of all I have enough yarn left over to make a matching cowl. That however is an adventure for another day.
