Free Paint and Old Shelves

One or twice a year Ace Hardware and Clark+Kensington give away a quart of flat enamel interior paint. The coupon states one per household per calender year.

This year I decided; why the hell not? It’s a great chance to try a color you normally wouldn’t or even a brand you’ve passed on before.

For me I liked the point that it was free. When I mentioned to my mom that it was going on her response was ‘what are you going to paint’. I didn’t know at first but I figured it out.

IMG_0883Shelves! I’ve had them for ages. They’re the cheap particle board stuff. They’ve got a few spots that are messed up but once painted it’ll be great for Nate’s room. He’s a big fan of red right now and has been asking to paint his room red. Not only could I never imagine red walls but it’d be a pain to paint over when we move next.

Choosing the color was a bit of a hit or miss. The first color we picked wasn’t part of the free deal but Foxfire was. My son compared it to the color of our exterior extension cord.

The paint went on smooth and easily. Best of all it came of me easily!

IMG_0884That is extremely bright. I don’t really like bright colors it hurts my eyes; as does looking at this pic. Luckily it darkens a little after it dries!

There is no doubt I never would have bought this paint. Orange interior paint? I wouldn’t even know what to do with it.

Fortunately my son loves it.

Dry it doesn’t look so bad. 🙂

My son however decided that he only needed one shelf in his room so I took the other.

This one is hanging over my yarn stash. I had to get rid of my large green hanging mesh bag after an incident involving a dog and a 10 year old.

In the end I’m very please with how the shelves came out. I’m still not a fan of bright colors, I’m rather photosensitive, but I am a fan of this paint.
