A few weeks ago I took a class on framing. Most bases that have a DIY frame shop offer classes. I had considered taking it for years but our last duty station had horrible hours for the class; Saturday from 8-12. That meant I’d have to leave the house by 7:30am on a Saturday. Needless to say I wasn’t going to give up what little extra sleep I could manage to steal with a child in the house.
The class here, however, was better. It’s offered a few times a month either on a Wednesday or Saturday. 9-12 is so much better when I live only 8mins away, possibly less. The class would have been much better if I hadn’t been practically sleepwalking. My stomach had acted up reducing my sleep to only 4 hours. Stupid acid reflux!
In the end, however, I only managed a paper cut so it wasn’t all bad and I walked away with my certificate. I also made a point to go back ASAP and start framing so I could learn it properly; sans sleep deprivation.
My first attempt at framing was a cross stitch that my sister had made for me for Christmas. The entire project cost me less than 30$.
I have extra wood from the stick I ordered and extra matting. They’re just waiting for a new project.
